                                            _{— and not understanding a single word of what he’s talking.
                    With relief she realizes that he’s as confused about what she just said as she is about his words. Ella bites her bottom lip and almost grins.
                              “Guess there are some we have to sort out here.”
          His tone when he spoke was… Something that would have upset her if she would have been in another situation, but her confusion keeps her from reacting harsher than she is doing right now.
                              “The united federation of planets, huh? That’s a way to put it. Humans have made it far in the galaxy in the last thirty years…”
                                                                               …with a bit of my help...
                              “… but maybe that’s an overstatement, and it’s definitely something I’ve never heard of.”
          Pursing her lips and narrowing her eyes she thinks for a moment.
                              “Let me guess: When I ask you, if you’d ever heard of The Council or the Citadel, you answer with a no, because you haven’t. And for Example the Terminus Systems won’t tell you anything either.”}

Yeah, she’s right. None of these words make any sense to Jim, there’s no council, there’s no such thing as the Citadel. It only adds to his confusion, brows furrowing as he tries to make sense of her words.
             "That’s– So, Vulcan didn’t implode? You–“
                      It then quickly dawns on him that she might not even have a Vulcan, it’s all seeming like they’re from two different realities the more they speak to one another.
                           "Did you even have a Vulcan?”
         It’s not the first time something like this has happened, probably won’t be the last with the amount of anomalies dotting the black.
